The VCU Rams and the Saint Louis Billikens meet Saturday in college basketball action from Chaifetz Arena. VCU sits at 21-7 so far this year. The Rams beat St. Bonaventure in their last game. As for Saint Louis, they’re 20-10 and coming off a win versus Rhode Island. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
VCU stumbled to a 3-4 start this season, but they’ve only lost three games since November 26. The Rams are currently on an eight-game win streak over Duquesne, Rhode Island, George Mason, Fordham, Richmond, George Mason, UMass and St. Bonaventure.
On Tuesday versus St. Bonaventure, the Rams hit a 40-27 run in the first half. VCU kept it up with a 34-24 second-half stretch in a 74-51 blowout win. Tops in scoring was KeShawn Curry on 14 points and six rebounds.
Over on the Saint Louis side, they were 17-6 back in early February but have gone just 3-4 since then. The Billikens have losses to St. Bonaventure (twice), Davidson and Richmond among wins over La Salle, Saint Joseph’s and Rhode Island in that time.
In the Wednesday matchup versus Rhode Island, the Billikens hit a 39-33 advantage by halftime. Saint Louis kept the pace from there in an eventual 80-74 win. Gibson Jimerson led the team on 22 points in 36 minutes of work.
Saint Louis is 20-7 ATS in their last 27 Saturday games and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 at home. The Billikens are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 6-1 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 11-2 ATS in their last 13 road games. VCU is 18-7-1 ATS in the last 26 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with VCU. The Rams are doing well over this 8-0 run. They’ve hit 72 or more points in seven of those games—the outlier being a 66-61 road win over Fordham. As for Saint Louis, they’ve been less predictable with 66 or fewer points in two of the last four.
These teams haven’t seen each other yet this year, so we’re likely in for a treat. I like this one to be a competitive, higher-total game with VCU eking out a cover/win.
