Samford vs Chattanooga 1/14/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Chattanooga Mocs and the Samford Bulldogs meet in college basketball action from the Pete Hanna Center on Saturday.

The Chattanooga Mocs will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 95-76 win over Western Carolina last time out. Jake Stephens leads the Mocs in scoring, assists and rebounding with 22.1 PPG, 3.7 APG and 10.5 RPG and Jamal Johnson has 13.6 PPG with 4.1 to make up the pair of double-digit scorers for Chattanooga up to this point in the season. The Samford Bulldogs will try to add to their five-game win streak after an 83-58 win over Wofford last time out. Logan Dye leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 13.3 PPG and 5.5 RPG while Jermaine Marshall has 11.3 PPG with a team-high 6.4 RPG to lead the Bulldogs in rebounding as the only other double-digit scorer for Samford this season. Jaron Rillie also has a team-high 3.2 APG to lead the Bulldogs in assists this season. As a team, Samford is averaging 78.9 PPG on 45.5% shooting from the field, 35.4% from three and 73.9% from the foul line this season.

I get the case to be made for either side here, but I’m leaning towards Samford here. The Bulldogs are rolling right now and as much as like Chattanooga, I’m not looking to step in front of Samford right now who are sitting atop the SoCon. The home team’s also had the bulk of the success in recent meetings, so I’ll side with the Bulldogs and lay the bucket here.
