The Stanford Cardinal and the San Diego State Aztecs meet Thursday in college basketball action from Viejas Arena. Stanford is currently 5-4 overall following a win over Idaho on Sunday. As for San Diego State, they’re fresh off a Tuesday game versus St. Katherine. In that one the Aztecs didn’t have any issues in a blowout win. Stanford Cardinal 

Stanford didn’t start out all that well this year despite beating Cal State Northridge, Sacramento State and Eastern Washington in their first four games (with a loss to Santa Clara). The Cardinal would fall in three straight after that to Arkansas, Michigan and Northern Iowa before finally getting another win over San Diego. 

In their latest matchup versus Idaho back on Sunday, Stanford was able to make it consecutive victories. The Cardinal scored 41 points in both the first and second halves in an eventual blowout result 82-64. Leading the team was Andrej Stojakovic with 17 points and four rebounds.

San Diego State Aztecs 

Over on the Aztecs’ side, they got off to a great start this year with seven wins in their first eight games. Those victories came courtesy of Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, Saint Mary’s, Washington, California, Point Loma Nazarene and UC San Diego. After a tough loss to Grand Canyon in game nine, the Aztecs bounced back with a win over UC Irvine 63-62. 

Matched up against St. Katherine on Tuesday, the Aztecs posted a blowout victory. San Diego State was up 52-22 at halftime and cruised from there in a 91-57 finish. Jaedon LeDee put up 17 points and six boards to lead the way. Reese Walters added 15 points in 15 minutes of work. 

ANDREW’S FREE STANFORD VS SAN DIEGO STATE PREDICTION 

I’m going to take a stab on Stanford, but you could argue this one either way. The Cardinal didn’t have too many issues versus Idaho in their last matchup, hitting a nice 56.4 percent from the field with a 42-26 rebounding edge. That makes 74 or more points in eight of nine games so far this year, and a good offensive effort would go a long way on Thursday. 

As for San Diego State, on Tuesday they didn’t have any issues versus St. Katherine and got a lot of time on the floor for their reserves. This matchup will obviously be quite a bit trickier though, and I don’t think the Aztecs will power out the cover. Should be a fun one to watch regardless.
