The UC San Diego Tritons and the San Diego State Aztecs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Viejas Arena. UC San Diego is 6-4 so far. The Tritons beat Caltech in their last game. As for San Diego State, they’re 7-3 on the year and fresh off a win over Saint Mary’s. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
UC San Diego started the year out on a nice 4-0 run, then hit losses to Montana, Southern Miss, Seattle and Denver in their next five games (with a win over Eastern Michigan). Back on Saturday the Tritons managed to get another W versus Caltech.
Matched up against Caltech, UC San Diego scored 53 points in the first half and 40 more from there in a 93-52 win. Leading scorer Francis Nwaokorie put up 12 points, and Toni Rocak added 10 points with 11 rebounds.
Over on the San Diego State side, they started out the year with a 4-2 run, beating UC Riverside, Arizona State, TX-Arlington and Georgetown in that stretch. It’s been a 3-1 run since with victories versus Long Beach State, CSU Fullerton and Saint Mary’s.
In the Saint Mary’s game Friday, the Aztecs had a slim one-point lead at the break. San Diego State posted a 37-28 run from there for the 63-53 win. Trey Pulliam put up 15 points to lead the way, and Nathan Mensah added 13 rebounds.
The Aztecs are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 after a straight-up win and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 overall. San Diego State is 0-5 ATS in their last five after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Tritons are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 6-1 in UC San Diego’s last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with San Diego State. The Aztecs put up a nice performance against a pretty good Saint Mary’s team in their last outing. Three players finished in double-figures and there were contributions all across the roster. San Diego State has scored 66 or fewer points in each of their last three games, but they should have plenty of room to stretch their legs here if the offense is clicking. I don’t think the Tritons will be able to keep up for the whole game.
