The Cal Poly Mustangs and the San Diego Toreros meet Sunday in college basketball action from Jenny Craig Pavilion. Cal Poly is 2-5 so far this year and lost to Cal Baptist in their last game. As for the Toreros, they’re sitting at 4-5 and coming off a blowout loss to Fresno State. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Cal Poly beat Westcliff in their first game of the year, then hit a losing streak versus North Dakota State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara and Nicholls State. The Mustangs would then beat Idaho and fall to Cal Baptist.

In the Thursday matchup versus the Lancers, Cal Poly was within one point at halftime but scored just 23 from there in a rough 64-55 defeat. Camren Pierce led the way on 15 points with six assets and five rebounds.

Over on the San Diego side, they went 3-1 over their first four with wins over La Verne, nevada and UC Riverside. Since then it’s been a 1-4 run. The Toreros have lost to CSU Fullerton, South Alabama, CSU Northridge and Fresno State in that stretch.

On Wednesday versus Fresno State, San Diego fell behind 33-20 at the half and didn’t get any closer from there in a 63-43 blowout loss. Vladimir Pinchuk topped the team with 11 points, and Joey Calcaterra had 10 points with three rebounds and three assists.

The Toreros are 5-16 ATS in their last 21 Sunday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. The under is 4-1 in San Diego’s last five after an ATS loss.

Meanwhile, Cal Poly is 4-10-2 ATS in their last 16 Sunday games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Mustangs are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 overall.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Cal Poly, but probably staying away. The Mustangs have had a few good games so far this year, but they’ve been wildly inconsistent on the scoreboard and have been above 67 points just twice this season. As for San Diego, they’ve had their scoring troubles as well, with just 95 combined points in their last pair. This game could go a lot of different ways, but I expect it to be competitive at least. I think the Mustangs can hang around and power out the cover.
