The Long Beach State Beach and the San Diego Toreros meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Jenny Craig Pavilion. Here’s a San Diego vs Long Beach State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best San Diego vs Long Beach State pick.

Long Beach State Beach Betting Preview

The Beach won their opener versus La Verne, then took losses to South Dakota State, San Francisco, Portland, Gonzaga, Fresno State, UNC Greensboro, UTEP, and San Jose State. The last pair have been wins over CSU Fullerton and Hawaii, though.

In the Hawaii game over the weekend, the Beach were ahead 37-32 in the locker room. Long Beach State hit a 39-36 run the rest of the way for a 76-68 victory. Devin Askew was the top team scorer with 28 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals.

San Diego Toreros Betting Preview

Over on the San Diego side, they lost four of their first five versus Rider, Portland State, Idaho State, and Southern Utah. After wins over Idaho and MARIAN, the Toreros have since lost to Arizona State and San Diego State.

Matched up against San Diego State on Saturday, the Toreros were within two points going into the second half. San Diego was outscored 41-26 from there, however, and lost 74-57. Bendji Pierre was tops with 17 points and four rebounds.

Why the San Diego Toreros will win

  • Long Beach State has lost each of its last 10 games against the West Coast Conference.
  • The home team has won each of San Diego’s last four games.
  • Long Beach State has lost the first half in each of its last eight night games against non-conference opponents.

Why the Long Beach State Beach will win

  • San Diego has lost each of its last four night games against non-conference opponents.
  • San Diego has lost the first half in each of its last five night games.

San Diego vs Long Beach State Prediction

I’ll lean toward San Diego here, but you could make a case either way. The Toreros faded in the second half of their last matchup versus a good SDSU team, eventually hitting a cold 30.9 percent from the field and 18.8 percent (6-of-32) from 3-point range alongside 16 turnovers. San Diego has scored just 110 combined points over their last two games and they haven’t hit the 70-point mark since November 12, so scoring may be a concern Tuesday.

As for the Beach, they’ve got a couple of good scoring outings in their last pair but had failed to hit 70 points themselves in seven straight games before that. Both teams need to get their shooting percentages up in Tuesday’s game. It should be competitive if nothing else.
