The Loyola Marymount Lions and the San Diego Toreros meet Saturday in college basketball action from Jenny Craig Pavilion. LMU is 7-6 on the year so far and fell to San Francisco in their last game. As for San Diego, they’re 9-7 on the season. The Toreros beat Portland in their most recent appearance. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

LMU managed to go 6-3 over their first nine games. The Lions lost to Chattanooga, Florida State and Grand Canyon in that stretch. Since then it’s been a 1-3 run with losses to New Mexico State, Nevada and San Francisco.

The Lions were outscored 52-29 by San Francisco in the first half of Thursday’s game. LMU performed better in the second half but still lost 97-73 in a blowout. Eli Scott topped the team with 22 points, and Dameane Douglas added 15 points as well.

Over on the San Diego side, they were just 4-5 in their first nine outings with wins over La Verne, Nevada, UC Riverside and UIC. It’s been a 5-2 run for the Toreros since then. They’ve beaten Cal Poly, California Lutheran, Northern Arizona, Pepperdine and Portland in that time.

On Thursday against Portland, the Toreros needed overtime to come back from a 37-30 halftime deficit. When the final buzzer sounded San Diego had a 68-63 win. Marcellus Earlington doubled up for the Toreros with 21 points and 10 boards.

The Toreros are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win. The over is 8-0 in San Diego’s last eight Saturday games.

Meanwhile, the Lions are 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games. The under is 4-1 in LMU’s last five overall.

Meanwhile, the Toreros are 1-5 ATS in their last six at home and 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win. The over is 8-0 in San Diego’s last eight Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with San Diego here. The Toreros got into some trouble in the first half of their last game, but to their credit they were able to power out the win. San Diego shot just 35.6 percent from the floor but also nabbed 46 rebounds, 14 team assists and just nine turnovers.

As for LMU, they’ve been scoring well over their last couple of games and should provide a good challenge in this one. It’ll be a fun matchup, and I think San Diego can power out the cover/win.
