The Pacific Tigers and the San Diego Toreros meet Saturday in college basketball action from Jenny Craig Pavilion. Pacific is sitting at 7-17 on the year so far. The Tigers lost to Gonzaga in their last game. As for San Diego, they’re currently 13-12 and coming off a loss to Saint Mary’s. Pacific got off to a sketchy 5-9 start this year and were only able to play two games (both losses) from December 22 to January 22. The Tigers are currently sitting on a three-game losing streak to Pepperdine, USC and Gonzaga.

On Thursday versus Gonzaga, the Tigers didn’t stand much chance. Pacific was outscored 28-46 in the first half and 23-43 in the second during an 89-51 blowout loss. Alphonso Anderson led the team with his 18 points and eight boards.

Over on the San Diego side, their year began at 8-5 overall. The Toreros played only one game (a loss) from December 18 to January 8, and they’ve improved slightly since then. The last three games have al been losses to Gonzaga, Santa Clara and Saint Mary’s, however.

Matched up against Saint Mary’s on Thursday, the Toreros took a 21-42 deficit into halftime. San Diego was outscored 36-44 from there in an 86-57 blowout defeat. Marcellus Earlington was the leading scorer on 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Toreros are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 5-1 ATS in their last six Saturday games. The under is 8-2 in San Diego’s last 10 at home.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 after a straight-up loss. Pacific is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 road games.

PICK: I’m going to try San Diego here. It’s tough telling what to expect however, as both teams have had some rough matchups lately. That said, the Toreros have generally posted decent offensive numbers in comparable matchups during this calendar year and should be okay in this one. The last time these teams met up back on January 22, San Diego managed a 73-65 road win. The Toreros should thrive in the familiar atmosphere during this rematch, and I like them to power out a cover.
