The Santa Clara Broncos and the San Diego Toreros meet Saturday in college basketball action from Jenny Craig Pavilion. Santa Clara is fresh off a Thursday game versus Loyola Marymount. The Broncos ended up winning by 19 points. As for San Diego, they played Gonzaga on Thursday. In that one, the Toreros were blown out by 30 points. Santa Clara posted a 10-5 run to start the year, then hit a postponement break from December 21 to January 12. The Broncos went 4-3 in the next seven games. The victories in that time were over Pacific, San Diego, BYU and Pacific again.

Matched up against Loyola Marymount on Thursday, the Broncos scored 35 points in the first and 44 in the second on the way to a 79-60 win. Keshawn Justice notched a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the team in the victory.

Over on the San Diego side, they managed a 7-5 run through their first 12 games. The Toreros were only able to play one game (a loss to UNLV) between December 18 and January 8. San Diego went 6-3 over their next nine with losses to San Francisco, BYU and Santa Clara.

On Thursday versus Gonzaga, the Toreros didn’t stand much of a realistic chance. San Diego was outscored 24-38 in the first half and 38-54 in the second for a 92-62 loss. Jase Townsend was tops in scoring with 13 points and two boards.

The Toreros are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 at home and 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall. San Diego is 5-0 ATS in their last five Saturday games.

Meanwhile, the Broncos are 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win and 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games. Santa Clara is 4-0 ATS in the last four overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Santa Clara here. The Broncos have posted some solid points totals during this 4-1 run; they’ve hit 77 or more in each outing. The last time these teams met up back on January 24, Santa Clara managed a 78-74 OT win at home. This one should be close as well.

As for the Broncos, they haven’t hit 70 points in any of the last three, but they’re still 2-1 in that time and should be able to bounce right back in this matchup. Should be a very interesting game.
