The Gonzaga Bulldogs and the San Francisco Dons meet Saturday in college basketball action from Chase Center. Here’s a San Francisco vs Gonzaga prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best San Francisco vs Gonzaga pick.

Gonzaga Bulldogs Betting Preview

The Bulldogs have been a pretty consistent team so far this year, with only two instances of consecutive losses. Gonzaga kicked things off with a 7-3 run, falling to only West Virginia, Kentucky and UConn during that time. A 7-1 stretch came next featuring a lone loss to UCLA among wins over Nicholls, Bucknell, Pepperdine, Portland, Loyola Marymount, San Diego and Washington State. After a spotty 2-3 stretch with wins over Portland and Oregon State mixed with losses to Oregon State, Santa Clara and Saint Mary’s, the Bulldogs have since gone 6-1. The loss in that time was versus Saint Mary’s; otherwise it’s been wins over Loyola Marymount, Pacific, San Francisco, Pepperdine, Washington State and Santa Clara. That gives the Bulldogs a 22-8 overall record through 30 games so far this season.

In their Tuesday matchup with Santa Clara, the Bulldogs held a slim two-point lead by the break. Gonzaga turned it on in the second half with a 51-34 run that carried the team to a 95-76 victory. Tops in scoring was Graham Ike with 24 points, seven boards, four steals and two blocks. Khalif Battle added 21 points with five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Ryan Nembhard managed to double up in the win, notching 12 points with 15 assists, five rebounds, two steals and four turnovers in 39 minutes of work on the court.

San Francisco Dons Betting Preview

Over on the San Francisco side, they’ve been quite consistent this year as well with only one instance of consecutive losses. The Dons kicked things off on a 4-2 run with losses to Memphis and Clemson. A 9-1 stretch came next with a loss to Bradley among wins versus Fordham, Mercyhurst, Saint Louis, Stanislaus State, Loyola, Montana, LMU, Santa Clara and Pacific. San Francisco would go a tepid 4-3 over the next seven games with wins over Pacific, Portland, Pepperdine and Oregon State. The next seven outings were a much better 6-1 run though. The Dons fell to Gonzaga during that time, beating San Diego, Washington State, Saint Mary’s, Loyola Marymount, San Diego and Pacific otherwise. That would give San Francisco a 22-7 record across 29 games this year.

Matched up against Oregon State in the Wednesday game, the Dons were up 33-31 by halftime and managed to power out the win in the end 74-72. Marcus Williams posted a team-high 21 points with four assists along the way, and Malik Thomas had 14 points with three boards.

Why the San Francisco Dons will win

  • San Francisco has won each of its last 13 Saturday night games.
  • San Francisco has won the first half in each of its last nine Saturday games against the West Coast Conference.

Why the Gonzaga Bulldogs will win

  • Gonzaga has won each of its last 31 games against San Francisco.
  • San Francisco has lost three of its last four games at Chase Center.
  • Gonzaga has won the first half in 26 of its last 29 night games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

San Francisco vs Gonzaga Prediction

I’m going to take a stab on the Dons, but you could argue this one either way. We should have a good matchup if both teams play to their capabilities. In any case, San Francisco is coming off a tight road win despite a 31-28 rebounding deficit and 52 percent shooting allowed to Oregon State. The Dons shot 45.6 percent on the other side though, and had just nine turnovers along the way.

Back on February 13 when these teams last met up, Gonzaga powered out an 88-77 home victory. The Bulldogs shot very well from the field (52.3 percent) in that one but not so well from the line (16-of-23 for 69.6 percent). Gonzaga controlled the boards on a 41-28 advantage however (15-8 offensive), notching 22 team assists along the way. San Francisco didn’t necessarily shoot badly (43.3 percent) but they lost steam in the second half on a 50-39 deficit. I like the Dons to rally and power one out in the home rematch if all goes well. It’ll be a fun matchup to watch.
