The Pepperdine Waves and the San Francisco Dons meet in college basketball action from the War Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pepperdine Waves will look to build on a 91-70 road win over Portland last time out. Kessler Edwards leads the Waves in scoring and rebounding with 17.4 PPG and 6.8 RPG while Colbey Ross has 16.9 PPG and a team-high 7.6 APG as the only other double-digit scorer besides Edwards coming into this matchup with San Francisco on Wednesday. Kene Chukwuka and Jade’ Smith each have 8+ PPG for the Waves this season. As a team, Pepperdine is averaging 77 PPG on 45.1% shooting from the field, 31% from 3-point range and 79.6% from the foul line while allowing 74.7 PPG on 44.2% shooting from the field and 27.7% from 3-point range this season.
The San Francisco Dons will look to bounce back after a 67-63 loss to Saint Mary’s in their last matchup. Jamaree Bouyea leads the Dons in scoring with 17.4 PPG along with 3.8 APG to lead San Francisco in assists as well. Khalil Shabazz has 16 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for San Francisco so far this season while Dzmitry Ryuny has a team-high 6 RPG this season. As a team, San Francisco is averaging 73.3 PPG on 43.6% shooting from the field, 36.4% from 3-point range and 70.7% from the foul line while allowing 67.3 PPG on 42.6% shooting from the field and 28.7% from 3-point range this season.
Pepperdine is 4-0-2 ATS in their last 6 road games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 Tuesday games. San Francisco is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The Dons are rightfully favored at home and I completely understand why. However, the Dons have also been very inconsistent in terms of covering the number lately, and while the Waves haven’t had success in the win column, they’re 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games and have been a lot more consistent covering numbers, especially on the road where the Waves are 3-0-1 ATS this season. Not to mention that 3-0-1 record includes a cover against Gonzaga and a push against BYU. I think the Waves can battle here and get a cover if not get an outright win, so I’ll take Pepperdine and the points in this one.
