The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels and the San Francisco Dons meet Saturday in college basketball action from War Memorial Gym. UNLV is just 1-4 over their last five games and coming off a loss to SMU. As for the Dons, they’re rolling along at 8-0 on the season and fresh off a win over UAB. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

UNLV started off well with a 3-0 run featuring wins over Gardner-Webb, California and North Dakota State. The Rebels have just one win since then (versus Whittier Athletics) alongside losses to Michigan, Wichita State, UCLA and SMU.

In Wednesday’s matchup against SMU, the Rebels stumbled to an ugly 44-21 deficit at halftime, limping toward an 83-64 result. Royce Hamm doubled up on 13 points and 10 rebounds, while both Bryce Hamilton and Justin Webster scored 12 apiece.

Over on the San Francisco side, they’ve had a couple of scares along the way but have prevailed at 8-0 so far. The Dons have beaten LIU, Prairie View, Davidson, Samford, Nevada, Morgan State, Towson and UAB in succession so far.

Last Friday against UAB, San Francisco held a 31-20 edge at the break. The Dons were outscored 41-32 from there but still held on for the 63-61 win. Yauhen Massalski put up 23 points with 13 rebounds over 37 minutes on the floor.

The Dons are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 9-27-2 ATS in the last 38 on Saturday. San Francisco is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss as well.

Meanwhile, the Rebels are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 5-17 ATS in the last 22 overall. UNLV is 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with San Francisco. The Dons are coming off their toughest game of the year against a good UAB team, shooting 45.7 percent from the floor with 42 rebounds in the win. San Francisco played a sloppy game however, with just nine team assists and 23 turnovers.

As for UNLV, they had a bad first half against SMU in their last outing but got better from there. The Rebels have a tepid 115 combined points over their last two games, and it’s going to be tough for them to keep up if the Dons get going here.
