Cal Poly opened up the year against Westcliff and didn’t have an issue winning. The Mustangs rolled to an 86-53 result. Game two was a different story against North Dakota State. Cal Poly had a good second-half run but ended up losing 60-57.
The Mustangs couldn’t get back into the win column in their last outing versus Sacramento State either. Cal Poly had a 26-22 halftime edge and ultimately lost 58-57 in a tough one. Alimamy Koroma was the team’s leading scorer on 19 points and five rebounds.
Over on the Santa Clara side, they had a slim two-point edge over Cal State Fullerton at half-time in their opener, and eventually pulled away for an 84-77 result. Game two was another big win for the Broncos, this time 88-72 over Stanford.
In game three against Nevada, the Broncos were able to keep the early-season winning run going. Despite trailing 42-39 at halftime, Santa Clara surged late for a 96-74 victory. Parker Braun led the team with his 19 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Santa Clara is 4-11 ATS in the last 15 Friday games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall. The Broncos are 6-18 ATS in their last 24 after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs are 6-0 ATS in their last six road games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall. Cal Poly is 16-38-1 ATS in their last 55 as a favorite.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Santa Clara. The Broncos stumbled a little bit in the first half of their last outing versus Nevada, but the 57 second-half points were a nice finish. Santa Clara has scored well so far this year, with 84 or more points in every game.
As for Cal Poly, they’ve been close in their last pair but haven’t been able to close out games. The Mustangs have scored just 57 points in each of their last two outings, and I’m not sure they can keep up on the scoreboard here for long.
