The Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Santa Clara Broncos meet Saturday in college basketball action from Leavey Center. Here’s a Santa Clara vs Gonzaga prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Santa Clara vs Gonzaga pick.

Gonzaga Bulldogs Betting Preview

The Bulldogs took victories in each of their first seven games, then fell to Michigan on November 26. After that Gonzaga took wins over Kentucky, North Florida, UCLA, Campbell, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Diego, Seattle U, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, Washington State, Seattle U, Pepperdine, San Francisco and Saint Mary’s. After a loss to Portland and wins over Oregon State and Washington State, the Bulldogs are 24-2 overall this year.

In the Washington State matchup on Tuesday the Bulldogs entered the second half with a commanding lead 48-21. Gonzaga cruised the rest of the way on a 35-32 stretch, eventually taking an 83-53 win in the end at home. Graham Ike led the team on his 20 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Davis Fogle added 17 points with two rebounds in the victory as well.

Santa Clara Broncos Betting Preview

Over on the Santa Clara side, they posted a spotty start with a 9-4 record in their first 13 outings. Santa Clara improved after that, beating Oregon State, Portland, Pepperdine, San Diego, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, San Francisco, Loyola Marymount, Pacific and Washington State in the next 13 games. In the first 26 outings that gave the Broncos a 21-5 run for their troubles.

In game 27 versus Seattle on Wednesday the Broncos were up by four points on their home court at halftime 33-29. Santa Clara kept it up in the second half on a 51-43 stretch and took the win in the end 84-72. Leading the charge was Sash Gavalyugov with 21 points, four rebounds and two assists. Christian Hammond added 17 points with six rebounds and one assist in the winning effort.

Why the Santa Clara Broncos will win

  • Santa Clara has won each of its last 13 games at Leavey Center.
  • Santa Clara has won the first half in each of its last 15 games at Leavey Center.

Why the Gonzaga Bulldogs will win

  • Gonzaga has won 44 of its last 45 February games as an AP-ranked team against a non-AP-ranked team.
  • Gonzaga has won the first half in 18 of its last 19 February games as a top-15 AP-ranked team against a non-AP-ranked team.

Total Points Facts

  • Eight of Santa Clara’s last nine night games against AP-ranked opponents at Leavey Center have produced a total of 157 or fewer points.
  • Seven of Gonzaga’s last eight games have produced a total of 151 or fewer points.

Santa Clara vs Gonzaga Prediction

I’m going to stay with Gonzaga. The Bulldogs didn’t have any issues with a struggling Washington State team in their last game, shooting 54.8 percent from the field with 85.7 percent (12-of-14) from the line and a 33-21 rebounding edge. Gonzaga also had a dominant 50-22 edge in the paint, but hit just three of their 13 (23.1 percent) attempts from 3-point range. The Bulldogs have been playing well since their loss to Portland, scoring a combined 164 points in a pair of wins over Oregon State and Washington State.

These teams last met up back on January 8 in an 89-77 home win for the Bulldogs. In that one Gonzaga shot a very nice 57.6 percent from the field with 32 rebounds and a 50-34 edge in the paint. The Bulldogs did cough up 13 turnovers, though. I could see Santa Clara hanging around in this one if all goes well but in the end I think Gonzaga has the inside track on a potential cover.
