The Butler Bulldogs will travel to the Prudential Center to take on the Seton Hall Pirates this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.

The Butler Bulldogs lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 13-15 on the season after being defeated by the 8th ranked Providence Friars, 71-70 (OT), this past Sunday. Butler allowed Providence to fight back from a 40-24 deficit early in the 2nd half to force OT and was able to secure the victory after Jared Bynum hit a pair of game-winning FT’s with :39 seconds left in OT. Butler shot 48.1% from the field & 38.5% from beyond the arc while allowing Providence to shoot 41.7% from the field & 36.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Aaron Thompson who had 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, & 1 steal.

On the season, Butler is averaging 63.6 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 7.2 three-pointers per game on 31.9% shooting from the field. Offensively, Butler has been led by Chuck Harris (11.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.7 apg), Jayden Taylor (9.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.1 apg), Aaron Thompson (8.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.4 spg), & Bryce Nze (8.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Butler is holding their opponents to an average of 66.2 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of -1.1 and a turnover margin of -0.5.

The Seton Hall Pirates snapped a 2-game losing streak and improved to 16-9 on the season after defeating the DePaul Blue Demons, 66-64, this past Saturday. Seton Hall was solid defensively against DePaul and was able to pull away after Kadary Richmond hit a layup with just :28 seconds left in regulation. Seton Hall shot 36.8% from the field & 36.4% from beyond the arc while holding DePaul to just 32.2% shooting from the field & 20.8% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Pirates was Jared Rhoden who had a double-double with 18 points, 18 rebounds, 1 assist, & 1 steal.

On the season, Seton Hall is averaging 74.6 ppg on 42.4% shooting from the field. The Pirates are averaging 7.5 three-pointers per game on 34.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Seton Hall has been led by Jared Rhoden (15.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.4 spg), Bryce Aiken (14.5 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.3 spg), Myles Cale (9.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.4 spg), Kadary Richmond (9.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.6 spg). Bryce Aiken has been out since mid-January due to a concussion and is out indefinitely.

Defensively, Seton Hall is allowing their opponents to average 67.5 ppg on 40.3% shooting from the field. The Pirates have a rebound margin of 4.1 and a turnover margin of 0.3.

The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games & 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. Seton Hall. The Pirates are 12-12-1 ATS overall on the season and 7-7 ATS in their last 14 home games.

Seton Hall has been decent statistically on both ends of the court this season, ranking 92nd in scoring offense & 133rd in scoring defense, however, the Pirates have struggled a bit since losing Bryce Aiken as the Pirates have lost 4 of their last 9 games which includes losses at home to St. John’s & Marquette. Butler can struggle on the offensive end and have just a 3-6 road record, however, the Bulldogs have been decent defensively this season, ranking 93rd in scoring defense, and as I think Butler will be able to keep this game competitive, I’m taking Butler to cover with the points. Good Luck!
