The DePaul Blue Demons and the Seton Hall Pirates meet Wednesday in Big East Tournament college basketball action from Madison Square Garden. DePaul is sitting at 9-22 on the year. The Demons lost to Creighton in their last outing. As for Seton Hall, they’re currently 17-14 after a win over Providence back on Saturday. DePaul Blue Demons

The Blue Demons managed a rough 9-15 stretch over their first 24 games this year. DePaul continued to lose as the season closed out, falling to Villanova, St. John’s, Xavier, Butler, Marquette, UConn and Creighton in the final seven games.

On Saturday versus Creighton, DePaul was outscored 39-24 by halftime. The Blue Demons got a little better with a 46-45 advantage in the second but still lost 84-70. Javan Johnson topped the team on his 18 points and five assists.

Seton Hall Pirates

Over on the Seton Hall side, they were 15-9 through their first 24 games. The Pirates are a sketchy 2-5 since then with losses to Creighton, Villanova, UConn, Xavier and Villanova again. The wins otherwise were versus Georgetown and Providence.

Matched up against Providence on Saturday, the Pirates jumped out to a 44-25 halftime edge. Seton Hall kept it rolling with a 38-33 second half and won 82-58. Dre Davis scored 24 points and Femi Odukale added 19 points with eight rebounds.

I’ll probably stick with Seton Hall in this one. The Pirates are fresh off a convincing road win over a good Providence team and should have a little momentum entering this conference tournament. Seton Hall is just 1-3 in the last four games but they’ve scored a combined 154 points over their last two outings. These teams have met twice already this season with Seton Hall taking both victories. First was a 71-67 road win on January 14, then came a 69-64 victory on February 5 at Prudential Center. DePaul didn’t play too badly in either of those, so you could probably make a good case for them to cover here. That said, I still like Seton Hall a little better.
