Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers
The Mountaineers kicked off the year on a 6-8 run with wins over Coppin State, Siena, Loyola MD, St. Francis PA, LIU and Canisius. It’s been a rough 2-5 stretch since then though, with losses to Saint Peter’s, Iona, Niagara, Quinnipiac and Rider (with two wins over Marist).
In their second meeting with Marist on Friday, Mount St. Mary’s was able to get back into the win column. After a 41-20 run in the first half, the Mountaineers scored 35 more points for a 76-58 blowout win. Lead scorer Dakota Leffew posted 34 points with seven 3-pointers.
Siena Saints
Over on the Saints’ side, they’ve only managed wins over Holy Cross, Rider and Niagara so far this year. Siena has lost five straight since their last victory on January 15. Those defeats came courtesy of Quinnipiac, Marist, Iona, Saint Peter’s and Rider in succession.
In the Rider matchup on Friday, the Saints were drilled 50-30 in the first half alone. Siena didn’t get any closer on a 41-30 second half and fell in blowout fashion 91-50. Sean Durugordon led the team with 25 points and two rebounds in the losing effort.
ANDREW’S FREE MOUNT ST. MARY’S VS SIENA PREDICTION
I’ll stay with Mount St. Mary’s. The Mountaineers haven’t had a great year, but they’ve shown a few flashes here and there. Mount St. Mary’s took care of a decent Marist team in their last outing thanks to 44 percent 3-point shooting (11-of-25) and a 40-26 rebounding edge. It was a nice scoring total after a combined 127 points across the previous two games.
These teams already met up in a home game for the Mountaineers back on December 3. That one turned into an 80-48 blowout win for Mount St. Mary’s. I don’t quite expect this one to be such a huge victory margin, but the Mountaineers should still be in control all the same.
