Howard managed a 6-6 run in the 2021 calendar year, then had to take a postponement break from December 21 to January 15. In the last five games the Bison are 2-3 with losses to Norfolk State, Notre Dame and Coppin State mixed with wins over Morgan State and NC Central.
In the NC Central game on Saturday, the Bison blew a comfortable 39-20 halftime lead. Howard needed overtime, but they eventually powered out the 75-74 win. Kyle Foster topped the team on 27 points and two steals during the victory.
Over on the South Carolina State side, they posted a 7-8 record through their first 15 games this year. The Bulldogs have been on a 3-3 run since then, beating Morris College, MD Eastern Shore and Delaware State with losses to Coppin State, Morgan State and Norfolk State.
In the Norfolk State matchup on Saturday, the Bulldogs were outscored 30-28 in the first half and 57-41 from there in an 87-69 loss. The only double-digit scorer on the team was Jemel Davis with 19 points, four rebounds and one assist.
SC State is 1-4-1 ATS in their last six at home and 2-7 ATS in their last nine Monday games. The Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Bison are 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss and 0-4 ATS in their last four after a straight-up win. The over is 4-1 in Howard’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Howard. The Bison have had some mixed results to say the least over their last five games. Still, Howard has been scoring well in that span, with 74 or more points in four of those outings. As for South Carolina State, they’ve gotten some nice returns over their last four games but they haven’t hit 70 points in any of the last three. If Howard can get off to a good start on the scoreboard here I think they’ll be fine on a cover.
