The Vanderbilt Commodores and the South Carolina Gamecocks meet Saturday in college basketball action from Colonial Life Arena. Vanderbilt comes into this one at 6-16 following a loss to Kentucky on Tuesday. As for South Carolina, they beat Ole Miss in their last game to move to 20-3 on the season. Let’s get into our Vanderbilt vs. South Carolina prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Vanderbilt Commodores

The Commodores managed a .500 run through their first eight games. It’s been a rough 2-12 run since then though, featuring losses to San Francisco, Texas Tech, Western Carolina, Memphis, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Auburn and Kentucky.

In the Kentucky matchup on Tuesday, the Commodores were outscored 54-38 in the first half alone. Vanderbilt didn’t get any closer than that on a 55-39 second half in a blowout loss 109-77. Tops in scoring was Evan Taylor on 20 points, five rebounds and one block.

South Carolina Gamecocks

Over on the Gamecocks’ side, they only took three losses across their first 17 outings. Those came versus Clemson, Alabama and Georgia. Since then South Carolina has taken out Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia and Ole Miss in succession.

Matched up against Ole Miss on Tuesday, the Gamecocks held a 43-31 edge after one half. South Carolina faltered on a 34-25 second but still held on for the tight win 68-65. Collin Murray-Boyles was the lead scorer on 16 points with nine rebounds in 24 minutes of work.

ANDREW’S FREE VANDERBILT VS SOUTH CAROLINA PREDICTION

I’ll lean toward South Carolina in this one. The Gamecocks had a close escape against a very good Ole Miss team in their last outing, giving up 50.9 percent shooting in a testy game. South Carolina shot 46.7 percent themselves with 32 rebounds and 16 team assists. It’s the second time in the last three games the Gamecocks have been below 69 points, but to be fair they’ve played some tough competition lately.

As for Vanderbilt, they’ve been below 70 points in seven of the last eight games during a tricky run themselves. This will be another tough matchup for the Commodores (with Tennessee looming next weekend) and I don’t think they’ll get anywhere close.
