North Dakota got off to a decent 2-1 start this year, but they’ve won just two games (over Presentation College and North Central MN) since then. The Hawks have fallen to South Dakota, Western Illinois, Oral Roberts and Kansas City in their last quartet.
In the Saturday matchup versus the Roos, North Dakota stayed with Kansas City for most of the game but couldn’t overtake the pace in a 79-74 defeat. Leading Hawks scorer Ethan Igbanugo put up 18 points with two rebounds and two assists.
Over on the South Dakota State side, they went 9-4 over their first 13 games. Since then it’s been a win streak versus Kansas City, Oral Roberts, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Omaha, Denver, St. Thomas MN and Western Illinois.
Matched up against Western Illinois on Saturday, South Dakota State got off to a nice 40-29 lead at the break. The Jackrabbits hit a 53-46 run from there in a 93-75 victory. Tops in scoring was Baylor Scheierman with 17 points and three boards.
The Jackrabbits are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 5-2 ATS in their last seven on Thursday. The over is 15-6 in SD State’s last 21 at home.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 17-36 ATS in the last 53 road games and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 overall. North Dakota is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on North Dakota here; the line seems quite permissive. Sure, the Hawks’ recent record looks bad but there’s plenty to be encouraged about. North Dakota isn’t getting blown away outright; they’ve been within seven points in each of the last four games. The Hawks have also hit 68 or more points in each of their last nine outings.
Sure, South Dakota State will chuck up a ton of points here but I think the Hawks can stay in range well enough to cover.
