South Florida vs NJIT 12/22/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The NJIT Highlanders and the South Florida Bulls meet Thursday in college basketball action from USF Sun Dome. NJIT is currently 2-9 on the season. The Highlanders beat Niagara in their last game. NJIT has just two wins this year over Sacred Heart and Niagara. Otherwise it’s been losses to Saint Peter’s, Cal Baptist, San Diego, American, Wagner, Cincinnati, Bucknell Army and Fairleigh Dickinson so far. 

In the Niagara game back on Sunday, the Highlanders jumped out to a 36-24 lead by the break. NJIT scored just 26 points from there but still hung on for the win 62-53. Kevin Osawe led the team on 16 points with 13 rebounds. 

Over on the USF side, they lost their first five games this season before finally bagging a win over Saint Josephs. Since then it’s been a 5-1 run with victories versus St. Francis BK, Charleston Southern, Northern Iowa, Dartmouth and Hofstra. 

In the Hofstra matchup on Monday, the Bulls took a 39-39 tie into the break. USF outscored the Pride 38-31 from there in a 77-70 win. Tyler Harris was the top team scorer on 19 points with four assists and one rebound. 

PICK: I might take a stab on NJIT here. Sure, the Highlanders’ record looks pretty ugly so far, but they’ve been competitive recently. Three of NJIT’s last five losses have come by five points or fewer. The Highlanders have also allowed 63 or fewer points in two of the last three games. As for South Florida, they’re playing much better basketball themselves lately. Seeing as how two of their last three games have been decided by three points or fewer however, I think NJIT has a shot to get into a cover.
