UAB Blazers
The Blazers posted a 14-8 run through their first 24 games of the year, then hit a win streak versus FAU, Tulsa and North Texas. UAB would finish off the regular season on a 3-3 run with losses to Rice, Wichita State and Memphis alongside wins over Tulane, Temple and SMU.
In the Friday tournament matchup versus Wichita State, UAB held a slim two-point edge by the break. The Blazers caught fire in the second half though and posted a 72-60 win after a 39-29 run. Leading scorer Yaxel Lendeborg put up 18 points with 14 rebounds in the victory.

South Florida Bulls
Over on the Bulls’ side, they came out of the gate this year on a shaky 8-5 run. South Florida posted a 15-game win streak from there, stretching from January 12 to March 5. The Bulls would then finish off the regular season with a disappointing 76-70 loss to Tulsa.
On Friday versus East Carolina, the Bulls got back into the win column. South Florida posted a 44-30 run in the first half and finished off with a 37-29 run to take the blowout win 81-59. Leading team scorers Kobe Knox (six rebounds) and Selton Miguel (bench) each scored 17 points.
ANDREW’S FREE UAB VS SOUTH FLORIDA PREDICTION
I’ll probably lean toward South Florida. The Bulls made short work of East Carolina in their Friday matchup, hitting 51.7 percent from the field with 45.2 percent from 3-point range. The only real blemish was the 7-of-14 from the line. USF has now scored 70 or more points in five straight games and should put up a decent total here as well.
The last time these teams saw each other on January 7, UAB posted a 75-71 victory. The Blazers only shot 40 percent from the field in that one but also held a 41-37 rebounding edge. The major key was UAB’s 41 free throws—of which they made 30—compared to the Bulls 9-of-19 rate. I like South Florida to get a little revenge in this tournament rematch, but it should be a fun matchup regardless.
