Southeast Missouri State vs Tennessee State 1/20/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Tennessee State Tigers and the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks meet Thursday in college basketball action from Show Me Center. Tennessee State is 7-10 overall on the year and coming off a win over Tennessee Tech. As for Southeast Missouri State, they’re sitting at 6-11 this season. Tennessee State took a 1-6 tumble to start the year but then hit a 4-1 streak with wins over IUPUI, Lipscomb, Charleston Southern and Campellsville-Harrodsburg. It’s been a 2-3 run since then with wins versus Southeast Missouri State and Tennessee Tech. 

Matched up against Tennessee Tech on Monday, the Tigers scored 44 points in the first half and 36 more from there in an 80-64 win. Leading the way was Carlos Marshall with 19 points, and Marcus Fitzgerald put up 18 points with five assists. 

Over on the Southeast Missouri State side, they were a reasonable 5-4 through their first nine games this year. The Redhawks have taken a 1-7 dive since then. SEMO’s most recent appearance was a loss to Tennessee State back on January 8. 

In the matchup versus Tennessee State earlier this month, the Redhawks took a 42-30 deficit into halftime. Southeast Missouri State scored 54 points from there but still lost 95-84. Philip Russell topped the team on 22 points with four rebounds in the defeat. 

SEMO is 1-5 ATS in their last six Thursday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 4-0 in the Redhawks’ last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 16-34-1 ATS in their last 51 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four Thursday games. The over is 15-6-1 in Tennessee State’s last 22 overall. 

PICK: I’m probably staying with Tennessee State. Not going near this one though; it’s been a while since we’ve seen SEMO on the court. In any case, the last time these teams met up the Tigers snagged a 95-84 win. Tennessee State shot a scorching 60.9 percent from the field in that one, winning the rebounding battle 33-21. The Redhawks didn’t shoot badly themselves (47.2 percent) but simply couldn’t keep up the pace. I don’t believe this one will be quite the shootout, but I still think Tennessee State will bang out a cover.
