Southern Utah vs Northern Arizona 12/17/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks and the Southern Utah Thunderbirds meet Saturday in college basketball action from Centrum Arena Utah. Northern Arizona is 4-8 on the year so far. The Lumberjacks lost to Utah Valley in their last game. As for Southern Utah, they’re sitting at 7-4 this season and beat CSU Fullerton in their most recent outing. Northern Arizona los three straight games this year before taking wins over Benedictine Mesa and UCSB. The Lumberjacks lost three more consecutive games, then beat Ottawa AZ, lost to Pepperdine and beat Pacific. 

Northern Arizona took another loss last weekend versus Utah Valley. The Lumberjacks were able to force overtime but eventually fell 80-75. Jalen Cone led the way on 29 points, and Nik Mains doubled up on 10 points and 10 boards. 

Over on the Southern Utah side, they hit a 3-1 run over their first four with a lone loss to New Mexico. The Thunderbirds went 1-3 over the next quartet, then beat Idaho State, West Coast Baptist and CSU Fullerton. 

In the CSU Fullerton matchup last Saturday, the Thunderbirds were up 28-27 going into the second half. Southern Utah was able to hang on and carve out a 67-60 victory. Harrison Butler scored 15 points and notched 10 rebounds for a double-double. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Southern Utah. Probably not touching this one, though. The Thunderbirds are on a nice three-game win streak right now and they’ve hit 65 or more points in every game so far this season. Southern Utah should have some room to score against the Lumberjacks, who have given up 69 or more points in six of their last seven games. I like Northern Arizona to hang around in the first half before the Thunderbirds get going.
