Utah Valley lost to Boise State by 20 in their opener, but since then it’s been a string of wins. The Wolverines have taken out Antelope Valley, Pepperdine, LBSU, Idaho, Nicholls State, Denver and BYU in succession since then.
In the BYU game, Utah Valley was down by two at halftime but rallied from there to force OT. The Wolverines posted a 17-10 advantage in the extra period for a 72-65 win. Fardaws Aimaq led the way on 24 points and a whopping 22 rebounds.
Over on the Southern Utah side, they went 1-3 in their first four games with losses to Dixie State, Saint Mary’s and California. The Thunderbirds have beaten Yale, Bowling Green, Eastern Washington and Idaho in their last four.
Back on Saturday in the Idaho matchup, Southern Utah posted 36 points in the first half and 45 more from there in an 81-75 win. Dre Marin led with 19 points, and Maizen Fausett doubled up with 15 points and 10 boards.
The Thunderbirds are 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games and 8-3-2 ATS in their last 13 Wednesday games. The over is 23-7 in Southern Utah’s last 30 overall.
Meanwhile, the Wolverines are 5-1 ATS in their last six overall and 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games. The over is 4-1 in Utah Valley’s last five after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going with Utah Valley. Thanks to some great individual efforts in their last game, the Wolverines were able to pull off a great OT win over BYU despite shooting just 31.3 percent. Utah Valley posted 50 rebounds, 13 assists and 11 steals along the way to the victory. The Wolverines have hit 72 or more points in each of their last seven games.
As for the Thunderbirds, they’re on a nice run lately with 81 points or more in each of their last four. Southern Utah tends to give up a ton of points, so this one should be a higher-scoring affair on both sides. I still like Utah Valley on a potential cover, however.
