Duquesne Dukes

The Dukes got off to a pretty solid start this year at 9-3 overall. Duquesne then took losses to UMass, Loyola, Dayton, Richmond and Saint Joseph’s in succession before wins over St. Bonaventure, Fordham, Chicago State and Rhode Island. Next came a loss to Davidson, however.

In Wednesday’s matchup with Davidson, the Dukes fell behind by 10 points in the first half. Duquesne didn’t end up getting closer with a 37-34 deficit from there and took the loss 72-59. Both Fousseyni Drama (bench) and Jake DiMichele led the team with 15 points apiece.

St. Bonaventure Bonnies

Over on the Bonnies’ side, they fell to Canisius, Auburn and Florida Atlantic during their first 13 games. St. Bonaventure is 4-5 since then with losses to Richmond, Fordham, George Mason, Duquesne and Dayton alongside wins over Rhode Island, Saint Joseph’s, VCU and UMass.

Matched up against UMass in the Wednesday game, the Bonnies were down 38-34 going into the locker room. St. Bonaventure came back on a 45-35 second-half run though, taking the victory 79-73 in the end. Charles Pride was the team’s leading scorer on 19 points and three rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE DUQUESNE VS ST. BONAVENTURE PREDICTION

I’ll take a stab on Duquesne. You could probably call this one either way, though; it’ll be a good matchup. The Dukes really didn’t shoot well against Davidson in their last outing with 40.4 percent from the field, 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from 3-point range and 60 percent (12-of-20) from the line. That’ll need some fixing. Duquesne has been below 70 points in nine of their last 10 games, so they’ll want to keep the pace on the slower side here.

As for St. Bonaventure, they’ve hit 71 or more points in three of the last four outings (a 3-1 run) and are playing some pretty good basketball in that time. The Bonnies lost 54-50 the last time these teams met back on January 23, so they’ll be in line for some home revenge on Saturday. I like Duquesne to keep St. Bonaventure in check, but it’s a coin flip.
