The LIU Sharks and the St. Francis BK Terriers meet Monday in college basketball action from Peter Aquilone Court. LIU enters this one at 6-9 on the year. The Sharks beat Central CT State in their last matchup. As for St. Francis BK, they’re 4-12 and lost to Wagner in their most recent game. LIU managed just one win in their first eight games, a November 27 victory versus Delaware State. Over the last seven, the Sharks have gone 5-2 with victories versus Merchant Marine, Army, Mount St. Mary’s, St. Francis PA and Central CT State.
In the Central CT State game Saturday, the Sharks got off to a nice 39-27 lead at halftime and only got better from there in an 83-61 blowout win. Tyrn Flowers topped the team on 30 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Alex Rivera added 21 points as well.
Over on the St. Francis BK side, they began the year at 0-8 before wins versus Saint Peter’s, Delaware State and Medgar Evers. It’s been a 1-4 run since then with losses to Merrimack, Central CT State, Mount St. Mary’s and Wagner.
Matched up against Wagner on Saturday, the Terriers posted a 34-31 deficit in the first half and a 47-45 run from there in an 81-76 loss. Patrick Emilien was the team’s top scorer on 23 points and four rebounds with three assists.
The Terriers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven at home and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. The under is 9-4 in St. Francis BK’s last 13 overall.
Meanwhile, the Sharks are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 overall and the under is 4-1 in their last five overall. The under is 6-1 in LIU’s last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going to try LIU here. The Sharks have certainly had their ups and downs this season, but they seem to have found a rhythm lately. LIU has hit 74 or more points in each of their last four games, going 3-1 in that stretch. As for the Terriers, they’ve been at 64 or fewer points in three of their last five. It’s tough telling what will happen in this matchup, but it should be a fairly competitive game most of the way. I still like the Sharks better on a potential cover, though.
