Central CT Blue Devils
Central Connecticut opened up the year on a pretty rough 6-17 run. The Blue Devils are 4-4 in their last eight with wins over Hartford, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner and Stonehill. The losses came to St. Francis BK, Sacred Heart, Merrimack and Sacred Heart again otherwise.
In the Saturday rematch versus Sacred Heart, the Blue Devils were up 34-29 by the break. Central CT was outscored 40-33 in the second half however and lost 69-67. Nigel Scantlebury was the top team scorer on 20 points.
Saint Francis PA Red Flash
Over on the St. Francis PA side, they stood at 8-14 after 22 games this year. The Red Flash are 4-3 in their last seven with wins over Sacred Heart, St. Francis BK, LIU and Fairleigh Dickinson. The losses were to Merrimack (twice) and Wagner.
In the Wagner game back on Saturday, the Red Flash trailed 38-26 in the locker room. St. Francis PA hit a 32-30 edge in the second but still lost 68-58. Leading the way was Josh Cohen with a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with St. Francis PA here. The Red Flash didn’t play very well against an average Wagner team on Saturday, but prior to that game they’d won three straight with 72 or more points scored in each. The Flash won 80-72 in the first meeting between these teams back on December 29, but lost the road rematch on January 28 by a score of 88-74. This one’s probably going to be competitive the whole way, but I think the Red Flash can power out the cover if they play to their capabilities.
