The Wagner Seahawks and the St Francis Pennsylvania Red Flash meet Sunday in college basketball action from DeGol Arena. Here’s a St. Francis (PA) vs Wagner Prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best St Francis Pennsylvania vs Wagner pick.

Wagner Seahawks Betting Preview

Wagner had a pretty nice run of games going from mid-November to late December. Outside of that, however, it’s been a rocky stretch for the Seahawks so far this season. A 1-3 opening with losses to Rutgers, St. John’s, and Seton Hall (with a win over Manor College) kicked off the season, then a 7-2 run. Those losses were versus Georgetown and Manhattan. Otherwise, it won over Boston U, Springfield, Coppin State, MD Eastern Shore, NJIT, Penn State Fayette, and Penn State Scranton. The past seven games have been a rough 2-5 run for Wagner. They’ve got wins over Central Connecticut and St. Francis PA in those outings. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Chicago State, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Mercyhurst (twice), resulting in a 10-9 overall record through the first 19 outings of the year.

In the road rematch versus Mercyhurst, the Seahawks came into the second half with a 37-31 deficit. Wagner got marginally better than that with a 35-34 advantage the rest of the way but still lost 71-66 in the end. Leading the team in scoring with 18 points, three assists and two steals off the bench was Zae Blake. Tops among starters was Zaire Williams with 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Keyontae Lewis added 10 boards and three points as well.

St Francis Pennsylvania Red Flash Betting Preview

Over on the St Francis PA side, they haven’t been able to find their groove (or stay above .500 in the record column) all year long. The Red Flash have just one instance of consecutive wins so far. The team kicked off on a 4-6 run with losses to Dayton, Clemson, Penn State, Mount St Mary’s, Georgetown, and Radford in that time. The four wins were over Campbell, Penn State Schuylkill, Lehigh, and Penn State Shenango. A 1-5 run came next with losses to Niagara, Maryland, Robert Morris, Central Connecticut, and Stonehill (and a win over Franciscan U). Since then it’s been an improved 3-2 run with wins over Mercyhurst, Fairleigh Dickinson, and LIU with losses to LIU and Wagner. The Flash currently sit at 8-13 overall this year.

In their LIU rematch back on Friday, the Red Flash held a three-point edge at the break. St. Francis PA hit a 36-29 run the rest of the way, resulting in a 74-64 win in the end. Tops in scoring was Riley Parker with 29 points and two assists in 37 minutes of work. Valentino Pinedo added 12 points with nine boards and two assists, while Daemar Kelly had 11 points, eight boards, two blocks, and four assists in 35 minutes on the floor.

Why the Saint Francis Red Flash will win

  • The home team has won four of Saint Francis’ last five games.
  • Wagner has lost three of its last four road day games against the Northeast Conference.
  • The home team has won the first half in each of Saint Francis’ last six games.

Why the Wagner Seahawks will win

  • Saint Francis has lost 10 of its last 11 day games following a home win.
  • Wagner has won nine of its last 10 games against Saint Francis.
  • Wagner has won the first half in each of its last seven games at DeGol Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.

St. Francis (PA) vs Wagner Prediction

I’m staying with St Francis PA. You could call this one either way though. Even though there’s not much to get excited about here, it should be another close game. The Red Flash are coming off a home win over LIU, hitting a nice 48.1 percent from the field with 37 rebounds and 13 team assists. St. Francis PA held the Sharks to 37.1 percent shooting on the other side as well. The Flash have scored 73 or more points in seven of their eight wins so far this year, so it’s important for them to hit that 70-point mark or so in this one.

These teams last saw each other recently: January 20 in a double-overtime home win for Wagner. Neither team shot very well in that one (both sub-37 percent) but the Seahawks had the edge on the glass 43-39. I like St Francis PA to get some revenge in the home rematch, but they’ve got to get that shooting percentage up.
