The Butler Bulldogs and the St. John’s Red Storm meet Wednesday in Big East Tournament college basketball action from Madison Square Garden. Butler comes into this one at 14-17 overall. The Bulldogs lost to Xavier in their most recent outing. As for St. John’s, they’re 17-14 following a loss to Marquette on Saturday. Butler Bulldogs

Butler posted an 11-13 record over their first 24 outings this year. The Bulldogs finished off the regular season on a sketchy 3-4 run, falling to Villanova, Georgetown, Marquette and Xavier with wins otherwise versus St. John’s, Xavier and DePaul.

In the Xavier game on Saturday, the Bulldogs were outscored 37-27 in the first half. Butler didn’t end up getting any closer with a 41-39 second-half deficit and lost 78-66. Jayden Taylor topped the team with 16 points and three rebounds in the defeat.

St. John’s Red Storm

Over on the St. John’s side, they were 14-10 at the 24-game mark this season. The Red Storm closed things out on a 3-4 run as well, falling to Butler, Creighton, UConn and Marquette with victories versus Providence, DePaul and Georgetown otherwise.

Back on Saturday versus Marquette, St. John’s took a 53-47 deficit into the second half. The Red Storm hit a 47-43 run from there but couldn’t make the comeback in a 96-94 loss. Dylan Addae-Wusu led the team with his 25 points and six rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with St. John’s in this one. The Red Storm closed out the season with three ranked opponents over their final four games (Creighton, UConn and Marquette), losing all three of those matchups. That said, St. John’s was fairly competitive in all of them and didn’t lose by more than 10 points in any of the three. St. John’s and Butler split their two meetings this year, with the home team taking the win in each. The Storm won 77-61 on January 10 and Butler eked out a 68-66 victory on February 7. I like this one to be pretty competitive as well, but if St. John’s plays to their capabilities they should be able to handle the Bulldogs.

Andrew's Free Pick: St. John's Red Storm -6.5
