Creighton was sitting at 12-5 back in late January, then hit a sketchy 1-3 run heading into February. Since then the Bluejays are on a 5-0 run with wins over Butler, Georgetown (twice), DePaul and Marquette in that time.
In the Marquette matchup, the Bluejays went into the break tied at 46 apiece. Creighton went on a 37-36 run in the second to eke out the win 83-82. Ryan Kalkbrenner led the team with his 21 points and seven rebounds.
Over on the St. John’s side, they were 9-3 early this calendar year but have slipped back closer to .500 on the season. The Storm lost a couple of games to Villanova and UConn this month, but since they’ve beaten Xavier and Butler.
Matched up against Butler on Friday, the Red Storm were up 46-30 by the break. St. John’s kept it up with a 45-27 second half in a 91-57 blowout win. Julian Champagnie was the top scorer on his 31 points, seven boards and seven steals.
The Red Storm are 6-0 ATS in their last six overall and 6-2 ATS in their last eight Wednesday games. The over is 5-2 in St. John’s las seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Bluejays are 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and 4-0 ATS in their last four overall. The under is 21-9-1 in Creighton’s last 31 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Creighton here. The Bluejays are playing well in this five-game win streak; they’ve hit 71 or more points in each of their last four outings. The last time these teams met up, Creighton secured a nice 87-64 victory at home back on January 19. St. John’s has shown some flashes since then, but overall the team has been highly inconsistent in the win column with these tough conference games. Ultimately I think the Bluejays will power out the cover here but it should be an interesting matchup.
