The Marquette Golden Eagles and the St. John’s Red Storm meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Carnesecca Arena. Marquette is 11-4 on the year. The Eagles beat Villanova in their last game. As for St. John’s, they’re 11-4 as well after a loss to Seton Hall on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Marquette went 6-2 over their first eight games this year, losing to only Purdue and Mississippi State. The Eagles are 5-2 since then, beating NC Central, Notre Dame, Creighton, Seton Hall and Villanova in that time.

On Saturday versus Villanova, the Eagles were down 44-39 by halftime. Marquette posted a 29-22 run in the second half for the 68-66 comeback win. Stevie Mitchell led the team on 19 points with two rebounds.

Over on the St. John’s side, they won eight straight to kick off the year, then fell to Iowa State. The Red Storm would win three straight before falling to Villanova, Xavier and Seton Hall in succession.

Matched up against Seton Hall on Saturday, the Storm were outscored 42-37 in the first half. St. John’s was drilled 46-29 from there and lost 88-66. Joel Soriano managed a double-double in the loss with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Marquette. The Eagles posted a gutsy win over a decent Villanova team in their last outing and they’ve generally been playing well this year. Marquette is riding a string of 68 or more points in 10 straight games and should keep that going in this one. As for St. John’s, they’ve given up 78 or more points in four straight games, going 1-3 in that time. I like this one to be a reasonably high-scoring affair, with Marquette powering out the cover.
