The Villanova Wildcats and the St. John’s Red Storm meet in college basketball action from Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. Two teams in need of a win, who snaps their losing streak? Let’s dive in and find out with our Villanova vs. St. John’s Prediction.
Villanova Team Preview
The Villanova Wildcats will be out to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 66-65 loss to UConn last time out. Eric Dixon leads the Wildcats in scoring with 14.9 PPG along with 6.4 RPG and Justin Moore has 12.2 PPG with a team-high 2.2 APG as the only other double-digit scorer for Villanova so far this season. Tyler Burton also has 8.7 PPG with a team-high 7.4 RPG while Jordan Longino has 8.2 PPG and TJ Bamba has 9.6 PPG as well on the year. Villanova will take on Butler, Marquette, and Providence after this game.
St. John’s Team Preview
The St. John’s Red Storm will look to rebound from their third straight loss after a 73-72 loss to Marquette in their last matchup. Joel Soriano leads the Red Storm in scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double per game with 16.1 PPG and 9.7 RPG along with 1.8 BPG while Daniss Jenkins has 13.3 PPG with a team-high 5.7 APG to lead the Red Storm in the assist department. Jordan Dingle has 10.5 PPG while RJ Luis Jr. has 11 PPG with 5.1 RPG in 9 games and Chris Ledlum has 10 PPG with 7.9 RPG as well this season. As a team, St. John’s is averaging 77.6 PPG on 44.4% shooting from the field, 33.7% from three and 70.8% from the foul line this season.
Villanova vs. St. John’s Prediction
I’m on St. John’s in this one. The Red Storm have the one key defensively to shut down Villanova, which is one of the best 3-point defenses in the Big East. The Wildcats have great shooting percentages all over the floor, but it hasn’t led to wins as this Wildcats team is still wildly inconsistent. All in all, I think St. John’s gets the job done at home so give me the Red Storm.
