The Bellarmine Knights and the Saint Mary’s Gaels meet Wednesday in college basketball action from University Credit Union Pavilion. Bellarmine is sitting at 0-2 so far and coming off a loss to Murray State. As for Saint Mary’s, they’re 3-0 and beat Southern Utah in their last outing. Bellarmine took on Purdue in their first game of the year. The Knights gave up 50 points in the first half and 46 more from there in a 96-67 defeat. CJ Fleming and Dylan Penn were the top team scorers with 14 points apiece and a combined six assists.
The Knights couldn’t get it going in game two versus Murray State either. Bellarmine was down just three points at the break, but gave up 49 points in the second during a 78-59 loss. Garrett Tipton was tops for the team in that one with 15 points and two boards.
Over on the Saint Mary’s side, they didn’t have many issues with Prairie View A&M in their opener, causing to an 87-68 win. The Gaels took on Texas Southern in game two, powering out a 67-58 comeback victory with 39 second-half points.
In game three against Southern Utah, Saint Mary’s got off to a nice start with a 29-16 advantage in the first half. The Gaels would go on to claim a 70-51 win. Tommy Kuhse led the team on his 17 points and four rebounds.
Saint Mary’s is 3-8 ATS in the last 11 overall and 7-3 ATS in the last 10 Wednesday games. The under is 7-2 in the Gaels’ last nine at home.
Meanwhile, the Knights are 1-5 ATS in the last six overall land 0-4 ATS in the last four as an underdog. The over is 6-1 in Bellarmine’s last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Saint Mary’s. The Gaels have had a couple of hiccups so far over their first three games, but overall the team is scoring well and getting a healthy group of contributors on a nightly basis. As for the Knights, it’s been a struggle keeping up in both games thus far. Bellarmine allowed 51.9 percent shooting from the floor to Murray State, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Gaels flirt with 50 percent themselves.
