The San Diego Toreros and the Stanford Cardinal meet Sunday in college basketball action from Maples Pavilion. San Diego beat Northern Colorado in their last outing, which improved the Toreros to 6-2 overall. As for Stanford, they’ve lost three straight at 3-4 overall, falling most recently to Northern Iowa. Let’s get into our San Diego vs. Stanford prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
San Diego Toreros
The Toreros managed to win five of their first six games this year, with a lone loss to UC San Diego. Outside of that, San Diego beat Sonoma State, Jackson State, Le Moyne, Navy and Arkansas State in that time before another loss to Hawaii. The Toreros shot a tepid 38.3 percent from the field in the 77-66 loss to the Rainbow Warriors.
San Diego was able to bounce back with a victory over Northern Colorado in their last matchup. It didn’t come easily though, as the Toreros finished off with a 45-44 second half in a 74-72 win. Kevin Patton came off the bench to lead the team on his 17 points, four steals, two blocks and six boards.

Stanford Cardinal
Over on the Cardinal side, they started out fairly well this year on a 3-1 run with a loss to Santa Clara mixed with wins over CSU Northridge, Sac State and Eastern Washington. Stanford would lose their next pair to Arkansas (2OT) and Michigan, however. In the loss to the Wolverines, the Cardinal allowed a whopping 59.3 percent shooting.
Stanford dropped another one in their last matchup versus Northern Iowa, and this one wasn’t close. The Cardinal fell behind 49-27 by halftime and limped to a 73-51 finish with 24 second-half points. Stanford’s top scorer was Maxime Raynaud, the only double-digit player with 12 points and eight rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE SAN DIEGO VS STANFORD PREDICTION
I’ll probably try Stanford here. You could make a case either way though, as it’s a pretty thick line. The Cardinal really need a bounce-back effort after a flat effort versus Northern Iowa, but playing at Maples again should help. Stanford posted just 36.5 percent from the floor versus the Panthers with 19.2 percent from 3-point range, which obviously isn’t going to get it done here.
As for San Diego, they coughed up 16 turnovers versus Northern Colorado in their last game but otherwise played pretty well. The Toreros have hit 67 or more points in six of eight games this year, so Stanford is going to have to step on the gas offensively. I like this one to be a fairly high total, with the Cardinal powering out a cover in the end.
