Stephen F. Austin vs Grand Canyon 1/20/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Grand Canyon Antelopes and the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks meet Thursday in college basketball action from William R. Johnson Coliseum. Grand Canyon is currently 14-2 this year so far. The Antelopes beat Tarleton State in their last outing. As for Stephen F. Austin, they’re 11-6 and coming off a win over Lamar. Grand Canyon went 8-2 over their first 10 games, losing to only Wyoming and Arizona State. The Antelopes have taken out Ottawa U Arizona, San Francisco, Chicago State, UTRGV, Abilene Christian and Tarleton State in their last six games. 

In the Tarleton State matchup on Saturday, the Antelopes posted a 44-22 advantage in the first half and cruised to the 80-59 win. Sean Miller-Moore posted 18 points to lead the team. Jovan Blacksher added 16 points and five boards. 

Over on the Stephen F. Austin side, they hit a solid 8-2 run over their first 10 games this year as well. Since then it’s been a 3-4 stretch, however. The losses in that time were to UL Monroe, Kansas, Tarleton and Sam Houston. The wins came versus Abilene Christian, UTRGV and Lamar. 

In the Lamar matchup on Monday, the Lumberjacks were down 43-37 at halftime. Stephen F. Austin stormed back on a 49-35 run in the second half during an eventual 86-78 win. Latrell Jossell put up 23 points with three rebounds to lead the scoring. 

The Lumberjacks are 2-6 ATS in their last eight at home and 0-4 ATS in their last four overall. Stephen F. Austin is 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games. 

Meanwhile, the Antelopes are 26-10 ATS in their last 36 overall and 1-4 ATS in the last five after an ATS win. Grand Canyon is 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight Thursday games. 

PICK: I’m going with Grand Canyon here. The Antelopes have done a nice job on offense over this six-game win streak. They’ve hit 80 or more points in five of those games and really only had one “close” win. That said, Stephen F. Austin should provide a bit of a challenge here. The Lumberjacks have scored 86 points in two of their last three outings, and if they get off to a hot start Grand Canyon will need to hustle to keep up. Ultimately I think the Antelopes will be able to rise to the occasion. Should be a fun one.
