Stetson vs College of Charleston 12/16/21 Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The College of Charleston Charleston Cougars and the Stetson Hatters meet Thursday in college basketball action from Edmunds Center. Charleston is currently 7-3 this year. The Cougars are coming off an OT win over Presbyterian. As for the Hatters, they’re 3-6 and fresh off a win over Johnson University FL. Charleston started out the year on a three-game win streak, then took losses to North Carolina and Oklahoma State. The Cougars would win four of their next five games however, taking out Chattanooga, Tulane (twice) and Presbyterian along the way. 

In the Presbyterian matchup, the Cougars had a five-point lead at the break but couldn’t hold on and the game went to OT. After the extra period, Charleston emerged victorious 78-76. Brenden Tucker put up 23 points with four rebounds and one assist. 

Over on the Hatters’ side, they went just 2-6 over their first eight games. The losses came to Georgia Tech, Miami-OH, Campbell, Florida Atlantic, FIU and Ohio. In their last game, Stetson got back in the W column against Johnson University FL. 

In the Johnson U-FL matchup, the Hatters didn’t have much trouble. Stetson jumped out to a 52-22 lead at halftime and ultimately took it 104-58. Leading the way in scoring was Chase Johnston with 17 points, and Christian Jones added 16 points. 

Stetson is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five at home and 1-4-2 ATS in their last seven overall. The Hatters are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Cougars are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games. Charleston is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Charleston here. The Cougars had a tough matchup against Presbyterian in their last outing, with 38.5 percent shooting and a rebounding deficit 46-38. Charleston was able to do just enough to bag the win, and they’re on a decent run over the last five games. 

As for Stetson, they’ve had trouble with most teams of consequence this year and they’re generally not scoring all that well. I don’t think the Hatters will keep up here for long.
