The Eastern Kentucky Colonels will travel to the Edmunds Center to take on the Stetson Hatters this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 10-11 on the season after being defeated by the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, 77-73, this past Thursday. Eastern Kentucky trailed by a 36-28 margin at halftime and could not fight back after the Eagles took a 70-61 lead with 3:41 left in regulation. Eastern Kentucky shot 46.2% from the field & 22.7% from beyond the arc while allowing Florida Gulf Coast to shoot 45.2% from the field & 28.6% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Colonels was Jomaru Brown who had 20 points, 2 assists, & 1 steal.

On the season, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 80.3 ppg on 42.4% shooting from the field. The Colonels are averaging 11.8 three-pointers per game on 35.0% shooting from beyond arc. Offensively, Eastern Kentucky has been led by Devontae Blanton (11.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.1 spg), Jannson Williams (10.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.6 bpg), Cooper Robb (10.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.7 spg), & Michael Moreno (9.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.4 spg).

Defensively, Eastern Kentucky is allowing their opponents to average 71.3 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field. The Colonels have a rebound margin of -2.3 and a turnover margin of 6.0.

The Stetson Hatters dropped to 8-12 on the season after being defeated by the Bellarmine Knights, 72-47, this past Thursday. Stetson was dominated on both ends of the court by Bellarmine and had no chance of fighting back into the game after going into halftime trailing by a 35-18 margin. Stetson shot just 28.3% from the field & 15.4% from beyond the arc while allowing Bellarmine to shoot 57.4% from the field & 34.8% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Hatters was Chase Johnson who had 13 points, 1 rebounds, & 2 assists.

On the season, Stetson is averaging 67.0 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field. The Hatters are averaging 8.2 three-pointers per game on 33.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Stetson has been led by Rob Perry (15.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.6 apg), Chase Johnson (12.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.4 spg), Christiaan Jones (12.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.4 spg), & Josh Smith (6.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg). Stetson has been without Rob Perry since early January and is out for the foreseeable future due to an undisclosed injury.

Defensively, Stetson is allowing their opponents to average 68.8 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Hatters have a rebound margin of 2.3 and a turnover margin of -1.4.

The Colonels are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall & 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Hatters are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record & 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

Eastern Kentucky has been led by their offense which ranks 18th in scoring offense & 4th in three-pointers made per game, however, the Colonels have struggled on the defensive end and currently rank just t-240th in scoring defense. Stetson has struggled on both ends of the court this season and currently rank just t-286th in scoring offense, 232nd in FG%, & 287th in defensive FG%.

Eastern Kentucky is just 1-7 on the road this season, however, the Colonels are a better team and it’s hard to imagine that Stetson, without Rob Perry, has the offense to keep up in this one. Stetson has lost 4 of their last 5 games along with a losing record at home and as I think Eastern Kentucky has no trouble putting up points against a below average Hatters defense, I’m taking Eastern Kentucky to cover this small road spread. Good Luck!
