The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and the Stetson Hatters meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Edmunds Center. Florida Gulf Coast enters this one at 11-7 overall The Eagles lost to Liberty in their last game. As for Stetson, they’re 7-10 on the season and fresh off a loss to Kennesaw State. Florida Gulf Coast got off to a solid 11-4 start over their first 15 games. The losses came to Loyola, USC, FIU and Canisius. Since then however, it’s been three straight losses to Jacksonville, Kennesaw State and Liberty.
In the Liberty game back on Saturday, the Eagles blew a 40-31 halftime lead by giving up 47 points in the second half. Florida Gulf Cost ended up losing 78-75. Top scorer Caleb Catto notched 23 points with two rebounds in the defeat.
Over on the Stetson side, their year began a rough 2-6 through eight games. The Hatters went on a 5-2 run over the next seven and nearly got back to .500 on the year. Stetson has come up short in their last two games though, losing to Jacksonville and Kennesaw State.
Matched up against Kennesaw State, the Hatters kept up pretty well in the first half. After a 39-14 deficit in the second, Stetson lost in a 77-49 blowout. Chase Johnston topped the team on 16 points, and Christiaan Jones added 12 points with 11 boards.
The Hatters are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five at home and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Tuesday games. Stetson is 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 after an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games. FGCU is 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
PICK: I’m going to go with Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles took a tough loss in their last outing, but overall they didn’t play too badly. FGCU shot 45.2 percent from the floor with 34 rebounds and 14 team assists but broke down in the second half. The good news is that the Eagles managed over 70 points for the first time in three games. Stetson hasn’t hit more than 68 points in any of their last four, so if FGCU can get off to a nice start here the cover should be theirs.
