Stetson vs Liberty 1/4/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Liberty Flames and the Stetson Hatters meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Edmunds Center. Liberty is 9-6 on the year so far. The Flames beat Boyce College in their last game. Liberty lost three of their first four games this year before hitting a win streak over Bethune-Cookman, MD Eastern Shore, Missouri and Delaware State. It’s been a 4-3 run since then with wins over Carver, East Carolina, Northenr Iowa and Boyce College. 

In the win over Boyce on December 31, the Flames posted 48 points in the first half and 43 more from there in a 91-60 result. Top scorer Darius McGhee posted 21 points with five boards, and Blake Preston doubled up on 10 points and 11 rebounds. 

Over on the Stetson side, they won just two of their first eight games this year. It’s been smoother sailing in the last five with a 4-1 run, however. The Hatters have taken out Johnson University (FL), Charleston, Piedmont and Point University in that time. 

Matched up against Point U on December 30, the Hatters got off to a 45-37 start by halftime and held on for the 77-65 win. Rob Perry put up 22 points with seven boards and six assists, while Mahamadou Diawara added 15 points and 17 rebounds. 

The Hatters are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. The over is 13-6 in Stetson’s last 19 overall. 

Meanwhile, the Flames are 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall and the under is 5-2 in the last seven Tuesday games. The over is 4-1 in Liberty’s last five after a straight-up win. 

PICK: I’m likely going to take a stab on Liberty here. The Flames stumbled out of the gate this season but lately they’ve started to look pretty good. Liberty has been scoring well, with 74 or more points in each of their last six outings. 

As for Stetson, they’ve hit 72 or more points in three of their last five games so they’re beginning to find their offense as well. All things considered though I think this should be Liberty’s cover to take. It’ll be a fun matchup, though.
