The Saint Peter’s Peacocks and the Stony Brook Seawolves meet Saturday in college basketball action from USB Sports Complex. Saint Peter’s is 3-5 so far this year and coming off a win over Nyack. Saint Peter’s posted a 1-3 run over their first four games, beating LIU while otherwise dropping to VCU, Saint John’s and Providence. Since then it’s been a 2-2 run for the Peacocks with wins over Quinnipiac and Nyack.
Matched up against Nyack last Sunday, Saint Peter’s didn’t have a whole lot of trouble. The Peacocks posted a 41-26 edge in the first half and a 46-22 run from there in an 87-48 win. Fousseyni Drame was tops on the team with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Over on the Stony Brook side, they hit a 3-3 run in their first six games, taking out Sacred Heart, Yale and American along the way. The Seawolves went 3-1 from there, gathering wins over Hofstra, Bryant and Central CT State.
In the Central Connecticut State game, the Seawolves managed 47 points in the first half and 40 more from there in an 87-67 win. Leading the way was Jahlil Jenkins with 21 points, five assists and two rebounds.
The Seawolves are 4-1 ATS in their last five at home and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. Stony Brook is 5-1 ATS in their last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Peacocks are 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 road games and 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 overall. Saint Peter’s is 7-18-1 ATS in the last 26 Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to try Stony Brook in this one. The Seawolves have posted three straight quality outings, nothing 79 or more points in each. Stony Brook has generally scored quite well over the last eight games, and I think they’ll keep that trend going here.
As for Saint Peter’s, they had a good bounce-back versus Nyack but hadn’t hit 70 points in any of the three games prior. I don’t think the Peacocks have the gas to keep up in this one.
