The Boston College Eagles and the Syracuse Orange meet Saturday in college basketball action from JMA Wireless Dome. Here’s a Syracuse vs Boston College prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Syracuse vs Boston College pick.
Boston College Eagles Betting Preview
The Eagles opened up the season on a pretty nice run. That said, Boston College has had some major struggles in the record column since late November. A loss to VCU was the Eagles’ only blemish during a 6-1 opening stretch, featuring wins otherwise versus the Citadel, Temple, Loyola MD, Old Dominion, Missouri State and Boise State. A 3-4 stretch came next with losses to Dartmouth, South Carolina and Wake Forest among wins versus Stonehill, Fairleigh Dickinson and Miami. Since then it’s been a rough 1-7 stretch for Boston College with a lone win over Florida State. The losses otherwise in that time came versus Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Duke, Virginia, North Carolina and Louisville. The result so far in the record column has been a 10-12 run through the first 22 outings of the year.
Matched up against Louisville on Wednesday, the Eagles came out of the locker room looking up at a 41-31 deficit on the scoreboard. Boston College got even worse from there on a 43-27 deficit and took the eventual loss 84-58. The Eagles’ only double-digit scorer was Donald Hand, who notched 19 points with five rebounds and one assist in the defeat. Jayden Hastings chipped in eight points with nine rebounds and a pair of blocks, while Fred Payne led the bench scorers on nine points, three rebounds and one assist in 24 minutes of work.
Syracuse Orange Betting Preview
Over on the Syracuse side, they came out of the gate this year with three straight wins over Le Moyne, Colgate and Youngstown State but they’ve been unable to win more than two in succession since then. The Orange lost eight of their next 11 games versus Texas, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Maryland, Wake Forest and Florida State. A 3-1 run came next with a lone loss to Louisville among wins over Georgia Tech, Boston College and Notre Dame. Following losses to Clemson, Pittsburgh and Stanford, the Orange stopped the bleeding with a win over California then fell to Duke, giving Syracuse a 10-13 record so far this season through 23 outings.
In the Duke matchup over the weekend, the Orange were in trouble after the first half facing a 37-23 deficit. Syracuse didn’t end up getting any closer than that on a 46-31 second-half run and lost 83-54 in blowout fashion by game’s end. Both Jyare Davis (three rebounds; one assist) and JJ Starling (three rebounds; two assists) led the way with 12 points apiece. Tops off the bench (and the only other team player in double-figures) was Naheem McLeod with 10 points and two rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

Syracuse vs Boston College Prediction
I’ll stay with Boston College. I’m probably not touching this one, though. Both teams have been pretty sketchy lately. The Eagles shot a poor 38.3 percent from the field versus Louisville in their latest loss, giving up 50 percent on the other side along with a 44-32 rebounding deficit. The 14 turnovers for 16 Cardinals points didn’t help matters, either. Boston College has been giving up truckloads of points lately: 74 or more in eight straight games (a 1-7 run).
These teams last saw each other not too long ago on January 11. That one was a 79-71 road win for the Orange. Both teams rebounded well (36 apiece) and kept the turnovers minimal (11 total) in something of an offensively heavy game. The Orange shot slightly better (49.2 percent) than the Eagles (43.5 percent) and looked better from the line. Boston College has plenty to clean up in the road rematch, but I think they can do it if all goes well.
