Brown went 4-2 over their first six games this year, losing to North Carolina and Creighton along the way. After losses to Colorado and Bryant the Bears beat Quinnipiac, UMass Lowell, Sacred Heart and Merrimack before a loss to Vermont on December 10.
In the Vermont loss, Brown was down 29-23 at halftime. Despite a 42-41 advantage in the second half the Bears fell 70-65 and couldn’t complete the comeback. Paxson Wojcik and Kino Lilly led the team on 13 points apiece.
Over on the Syracuse side, their year began on a 3-3 run with wins over Lafayette, Drexel and Arizona State. The Orange then beat Indiana and Florida State before a pair of losses to Villanova and Georgetown.
On December 11 versus the Hoyas, Syracuse blew a 44-34 halftime lead with a 45-31 deficit from there in a 79-75 defeat. Buddy Boheim led the way on 17 points. Joseph Girard added 15 points with seven assists and three boards.
Syracuse is 1-4 ATS in their last five as a favorite and the over is 6-1 in their last seven Monday games. The over is 20-8 in the Orange’s last 28 as an underdog.
Meanwhile, the Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games. The over is 4-0 in Brown’s last four overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Syracuse. The Orange played a nice first half against Georgetown, ultimately shooting 44.1 percent from the field with 20 team assists. That said, Syracuse hit just 7-of-11 from the line and were out-rebounded 38-31 by the Hoyas; there are certainly plenty of things to clean up. All things considered the Orange haven’t been playing too badly over their last six games or so, however.
As for the Bears, they had a four-game streak of 72 or more points snapped in their last game. I like Brown to bounce back and put up a decent total here, though. We should have a fairly competitive and higher-scoring game most of the way here, and I think Syracuse can eventually power out the cover.
