Tarleton State vs Utah Valley Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/23/23

The Utah Valley Wolverines and the Tarleton State Texans meet Thursday in college basketball action from Wisdom Gymnasium. Utah Valley is 21-6 overall this year. The Wolverines beat Seattle in their last outing. As for Tarleton State, they’re 14-14 so far following a Saturday loss to Sam Houston State. Utah Valley Wolverines 

Utah Valley hit a pretty nice 15-5 run over their first 20 games this year. The Wolverines have only gotten better on a 6-1 run since. The wins in that time were over Grand Canyon, new Mexico State, Utah Tech, Cal Baptist, Southern Utah and Seattle. 

In the Seattle matchup on Saturday, the Wolverines went into halftime with a 24-21 deficit. Utah Valley hit a 46-34 run from there and won it 67-58. Le’Tre Darthard put up 19 points and Aziz Bandaogo added 17 rebounds in the victory. 

Tarleton State Texans

Over on the Tarleton State side, they managed a 12-10 record over their first 22 outings this year. The Texans are 2-4 in their last six games with losses to UTRGV, Southern Utah, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State in that stretch. 

Matched up against Sam Houston State over the weekend, the Texans trailed 34-27 going into the second half. Tarleton State hit a 32-30 run from there but still lost 64-59. Freddy Hicks was the top team scorer with 18 points and seven boards. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’m sticking with Utah Valley. The Wolverines got into a bit of trouble early against Seattle in their last game, but to their credit Utah Valley pulled off the comeback win. That makes five straight victories for the Wolverines with 67 or more points scored in each. Utah Valley shouldn’t have too much trouble putting up a nice total here either. As for Tarleton State, they’ve failed to hit 70 points in five of their last six games. I don’t think the Texans will have the gas to keep up with Utah Valley if the Wolverines get going.
