The Weber State Wildcats and the Tarleton Texans meet in college basketball action from the Wisdom Gym on Tuesday night.
The Weber State Wildcats will try to bounce back from an 87-65 loss to Wright State last time out. Steven Verplancken Jr. leads the Wildcats in scoring with 12.5 PPG while Dillon Jones has 12.4 PPG with team-highs of 9 RPG and 3.8 APG to lead Weber State in rebounding and assists up to this point in the season. As a team, Weber State is averaging 65.7 PPG on 41% shooting from the field, 29.9% from three and 81.4% from the foul line this season.
The Tarleton Texans will look to bounce back from back-to-back losses after an 83-71 loss to Wichita State last time out. Freddy Hicks has 22.8 PPG and 7.8 RPG through four games while Jakorie Smith has 11.7 PPG with 4.2 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Tarleton up to this point in the year. Shakur Daniel also has 7.3 PPG with a team-high 2.8 APG to lead Tarleton in assists. As a team, Tarleton is averaging 74.7 PPG on 44.5% shooting from the field, 31.6% from three and 68.8% from the foul line this season.
Weber State is 3-14 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss by 20 or more points while the over is 19-9 in their last 28 games following an ATS loss. Tarleton is 1-7 ATS in their last 7 home games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a loss while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 home games against a team with a losing road record.
I get the case to be made for Weber State here as this isn’t normally the kind of number you’re asked to lay with Tarleton. However, the Wildcats just haven’t been very good this season and maybe they’ll pick it up once conference play rolls around, but that doesn’t help them here. Tarleton’s looked pretty good early on and I just think that even if it’s more of a fade fo Weber State than anything else, you have to ride with the Texans here.
