Notre Dame opened the season on a nice run but they’ve been pretty choppy in the record column lately. Cole Certa came off the bench for 14 points and one assist in 17 minutes of work during the win, and Jalen Haralson had 13 points, four boards and two assists along the way for the Fighting Irish.

Over on the TCU side, they started on a .500 run this year but they’re looking good since then. In the first four games the Frogs went 2-2 with losses to New Orleans and Michigan sandwiched around wins over Saint Francis and Lamar. In the last three games it’s been all wins though, as TCU has dispatched Kansas City, Florida and Wisconsin in that time. That leaves the Horned Frogs at 5-2 overall through their first seven games of the year.

In the Wisconsin matchup back on Friday the Frogs came out of the break with a 41-37 edge. TCU finished on a 33-26 run and took the double-digit win in the end 74-63. Leading the team in scoring was David Punch with 17 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Brock Harding added 16 points with five assists and four rebounds while Xavier Edmonds chipped in with 12 points, three rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes of work on the floor in the win.

I’m just going to stay with TCU. The Frogs didn’t shoot very well from the line overall (10-of-16 for 62.5 percent) in their latest win over Wisconsin, but they did just about everything else right. TCU hit 46.7 percent from the field and 8-of-14 (57.1 percent) from outside, along with a 35-32 rebounding edge and 15 team assists. The Frogs’ defense kept Wisconsin to just 34.5 percent from the field and 25 percent (7-of-28) from 3-point range. During this three-game win streak (and since putting up 63 points versus Michigan in a four-point loss), the Horned Frogs have scored 74 or more points in three straight, with 81 or more in two of those.

As for Notre Dame, they were able to power out a nice win over a good Missouri team in their last outing. The Irish shot 46 percent from the field in that one with 15-of-18 (83 percent) from the lien and 33 rebounds, but did have 13 turnovers along the way. Since the middle of last month it’s been a choppy run for the Irish, but when they’re on point the team is quite good.
