Texas A&M-Commerce Lions
The Lions lost their first four games of the year versus Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Kentucky and Fort Wayne. Texas A&M-Commerce hit a 4-2 stretch after that with wins over Science & Arts (OK), Saint Joseph’s, Stonehill and Dallas Christian, then took out Northern Colorado and Arlington Baptist in the next pair.
Back on December 18 versus Arlington Baptist, the Lions didn’t have too many issues. Texas A&M-CC scored 63 points in the first half and another 67 in the second on the way to a 130-53 blowout victory. Tops in scoring was Jerome Brewer with 22 points and four rebounds, while Khaliq Abdul-Mateen came off the bench to add 14 points.
TCU Horned Frogs
Over on the Frogs’ side, their year started with a win streak over Southern, Omaha, UTRGV, MS Valley State, Alcorn State, Houston Christian and Georgetown. TCU has since gone 3-2 with wins over Arizona State, Old Dominion and Hawaii alongside losses to Clemson and Nevada.
In their matchup versus Hawaii on Christmas Eve, the Frogs were up 36-27 at halftime. TCU posted a 29-24 run from there and ended up with the win 65-51. Leading the team in scoring was Jameer Nelson with 13 bench points, and Trevian Tennyson added 10 points with five rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE VS TCU PREDICTION
I’ll stay with TCU in this one, even though the line’s pretty thick. The Frogs weren’t exactly overwhelming on the scoreboard versus Hawaii in their last outing, but they got it done with defense. TCU held the Warriors to just 33.3 percent shooting in the 14-point win, but it was also the Frogs’ lowest points total of the season so far.
As for Texas A&M-Commerce, they’ve scored 100 or more points in three of the last four games—but just 47 in the other (versus SMU). The Lions likely aren’t going to be able to dictate the pace in this one, so TCU should have full control. I like a high points total in a return to form for the Frogs here.
