The West Virginia Mountaineers and the TCU Horned Frogs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Schollmaier Arena. Here’s a TCU vs West Virginia prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best TCU vs West Virginia pick.
West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview
The Mountaineers were looking quite good over their first 13 games or so, but since the calendar flipped to the new year they’ve been pretty choppy in the record column. West Virginia lost to only Pitt, Louisville, Arizona, and Houston during a 13-4 opening run. The wins otherwise came over Robert Morris, UMass, Iona, Gonzaga, Arizona, Georgetown, NC Central, Bethune-Cookman, Mercyhurst, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Colorado, and Iowa State during that time. A losing streak followed versus Arizona State, Kansas State, and Houston in the next three outings, but West Virginia managed to stop the bleeding with a win over Cincinnati this past weekend. The result so far has been a 14-7 overall record through 21 games this year.
In the Cincinnati matchup on Sunday, the Mountaineers came out of halftime with a 40-25 advantage. West Virginia was outpaced by two points from there but still held on for a 63-50 win in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Javon Small with 19 points, nine assists, two steals, and two blocks in 36 minutes of work on the floor. Joseph Yesufu added 16 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench, while both Amani Hansberry (11 rebounds) and Toby Okani (three rebounds) each chipped in eight points in the victory.
TCU Horned Frogs Betting Preview
Over on the TCU side, they’ve got a couple of pretty good runs in the books so far this year. That said, the Frogs have barely been able to keep their heads above the .500 mark. TCU lost to Michigan, Santa Clara, Colorado State, and Vanderbilt during a 7-4 opening run, otherwise beating Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, Texas State, Alcorn State, Xavier, South Alabama, and Montana State in that time. A 3-3 stretch came next with wins over Kansas State, BYU, and Baylor among losses to Arizona, Houston, and Utah. Since then it’s been losses to Kansas, UCF, and Texas Tech ahead of a win over Colorado. That gives the Horned Frogs an 11-10 overall run through their first 21 games this year.
In the Colorado matchup on Sunday, the Frogs were looking good after the first half with a 34-27 advantage. TCU kept it up from there on a 34-30 stretch and took the victory 68-57 in the end. Tops in scoring was David Punch with 19 points, two boards, and one assist. The only other team player in double-figures was Noah Reynolds with 11 points, six assists, and one rebound. Jace Posey came off the bench for eight minutes to contribute nine points, however.

TCU vs West Virginia Prediction
I’ll stick with West Virginia. The Mountaineers didn’t have too many issues against a decent Cincinnati team in a road win during their last outing. WVU hit 49 percent from the field in that one, holding the Bearcats to just 31.5 percent on the other side. That said it was a fairly sloppy game overall with the Mountaineers contributing 13 of 27 total turnovers (for 13 Cincinnati points), and they did get out-rebounded 12-5 on the offensive glass. Otherwise, there’s not much to complain about in the win, and it did stop a rough three-game skid. West Virginia isn’t the highest-scoring team in the world this year; they’ve hit fewer than 65 points in six straight (a 2-4 run). As long as the defense holds though, WVU usually has a chance to win.
As for TCU, they’ve been below 62 points in three of the last four games (all three were losses). The Mountaineers shouldn’t have a ton of issues keeping the Frogs honest on the scoreboard, so I like WVU to power one out on Wednesday.
