The Drexel Dragons and the Temple Owls meet Saturday in college basketball action from Liacouras Center. Drexel is 5-5 so far this year. The Dragons beat Coppin State in their last game. Drexel posted a 3-3 run over their first six games, beating Neumann, Saint Joseph’s and Charlotte along the way. In the last four the Dragons have gone 2-2, falling to Abilene Christian and Princeton while otherwise beating Fairleigh Dickinson and Coppin State.
In the Coppin State game, the Dragons got off to a 41-35 lead at halftime and ended up coming away with a 76-69 win. Lamar Oden posted 15 points to lead the way, and James Butler doubled up with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Over on the Temple side, they hit a 1-3 skid to open the season. The Owls got better from there and took out Elon, Delaware, La Salle, Penn and Vanderbilt in succession. Since then it’s been a pair of losses to Saint Joseph’s and UCF, however.
Back on Wednesday versus UCF, the Owls had a slim 19-18 lead at the break, but then were outscored 47-29 from there in a 65-48 defeat. Jeremiah Williams posted 11 points in the loss, and Damian Dunn added 10 points with three boards.
Temple is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 at home and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. The Owls are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Dragons are 6-1 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 8-1 ATS in their last nine after an ATS loss. The over is 17-6 in Drexel’s last 23 road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Drexel. The Dragons posted a good bounce-back game in their last outing versus a struggling Coppin State team. Drexel has had some offensive bumps in the road this year, but they’ve hit 76 or more points in three of their last four outings.
As for Temple, they played an odd game against UCF in their last outing, ultimately shooting just 26.8 percent from the floor with an ugly 3-of-30 (10 percent) from 3-point range. The Owls will likely look better here, but Drexel seems a better cover option.
