The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks and the Temple Owls meet in college basketball action from the Liacouras Center on Wednesday night.
The Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks will look to rebound from a 69-67 loss to start their season against St. Joe’s on Tuesday night. Dom London led the Hawks with 11 points on 4 of 7 shooring with a pair of threes, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals as the only UMES player to score in double figures. Chace Davis, Zion Styles, Kohen Thompson and Dashawn Phillip each had 9 points with Phillip logging a team-high 5 assists and Thompson logging 6 rebounds. Nathaniel Pollard Jr. also has a team-high 7 rebounds as well in the loss.
The Temple Owls will look to bounce back from a 5-11 mark in 2020-21, including a 4-10 record in AAC conference play, earning the 9-seed in the conference tournament. In the first round, Temple would exit after a 73-71 loss to USF. The Owls did lose a couple of their top players from last year’s team, including JP Moorman II and De’Vondre Perry, but bring back Khalif Battle (15 PPG, 6.4 RPG last season) and Damien Dunn (13.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG). Jeremiah Williams (9.3 PPG, 4.1 APG, 3.6 RPG) and Jake Forrester (9.3 PPG, 6.4 RPG) also return and the Owls bring in Sage Tolbert as a transfer from Southeastern Missouri State after putting up 9.6 PPG and 7 RPG for the RedHawks in 2019-20.
Maryland-Eastern Shore is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 Wednesday games. Temple is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall.
I get the case that you could make for UMES and the points as they’ve had a game to shake off the rust and nearly took out St. Joe’s on the road. However, a loss like that for a team like the Hawks, who don’t normally have opportunities to be close that late against the big boys, can sting for a bit and an emotional loss can be hard to get back up from on a back-to-back. Temple’s itching to take the floor and while the Hawks had a solid showing against St. Joe’s, against Temple, I don’t think they’ll have the same luck. Give me Temple in this one.
